Woodinville, WA –8 February 2010 – WESMAR is showcasing its new DSP4800 series stabilizers at the 2010 winter boat shows.
“If you are a WESMAR stabilizer user, you already know the comfort our roll fin stabilizers produce,” says WESMAR President Bruce Blakey. “Over the years customers have called and written to say how pleased they were with the comfort. With today’s even faster, smarter system, they will be ecstatic; they will find them a truly life changing experience.”
With these new powerful active fin stabilizers there is seamless freedom from a rolling boat, but also from rocking and heaving, whether traveling fast, slow or at anchor. These new systems, the world’s fastest, use a multi axis gyro sampling at the warp speed of 4800 times per second to preempt boat rolls. (By comparison, WESMAR’s previous systems sampled at 1000 times per second.)
This speed, combined with extremely innovative software, honed with WESMAR’s decades of electronic gyro stabilizer experience places WESMAR’s three newest powerful, active stabilization systems in first place for speed and technology. The three models offer comfort for all boaters and low-cost updates to existing systems.
Unique to the DSP4800 system is a wheelhouse monitor that is controlled by a digital keypad from which the Captain controls the system. Innovative software linked to the stabilizer displays real-time vessel roll and fin movement to correct the roll. The horizontal wave lines track how the vessel is responding. Yellow is the roll; blue shows the degree of fin movement; red is the port fin movement; green is the starboard fin movement.
- DSP4801 Standard Digital Stabilization controls roll and heave, and includes on-screen display of fin movement in real time.
- DSP4802 Digital Stabilization and Lift maintains the fins in a positive lift position during all stabilization movement, providing maximum fuel savings.
- DSP4803 Digital Stabilization, Lift and At Anchor monitors incoming swells and automatically controls fin movement to reduce the effect.
The DSP technology changes the dynamics of how roll fin stabilizers react to vessel roll. Using advanced software techniques, the system constantly samples the multi axis gyro memorizing the vessel’s roll characteristics in order to react instantaneously, predicting and then preempting vessel roll.
The new WESMAR system displays a real time presentation of the fin position and the actual roll rate of the vessel. Also built in is the ability to monitor the hydraulic system for high temperature and low oil level conditions. For high speed vessels, an optional lift function positions the fins to lift the hull and lower drag. A GPS interface permits display of the overall improvement in speed. The GPS interface provides slow speed and reverse fin lock, eliminating the requirement for additional electronics or mechanical connections, and simplifying installation.
A small controller replaces a larger control box and can run dual monitors and dual control pads, giving remote and full navigator capabilities both in the wheelhouse and the fly bridge. A digital link to the driver board makes the DSP4800 immune to RF interference, often a nuisance with marine electronics.
WESMAR draws on three decades of roll fin stabilizer experience and 45 years of strong leadership in marine electronics design. In both areas WESMAR’s ever expanding technology developments have produced systems that lead the marine industry and are used around the world by commercial, pleasure boat, work boats and governments.
Existing WESMAR stabilizers users can upgrade to the new DSP4800 system using existing cables and connectors. WESMAR also offers an upgrade package including cables for electronic retrofits of other stabilizer brands.
